Pinterest is the foolproof way to prepare for the holidays—from gifts for loved ones to table setting & holiday decorations to recipes, it’s a one stop shop. You’ll want to be a part of this platform as it undoubtedly gets its most exposure this time of year. A study of Pinterest users by market research firm Lab42 found that 54 percent [of Pinterest users]spend more time on the site during the holidays and 94 percent say it has changed the way they make their holiday preparations. And people are turning to Pinterest to share ideas—42 percent have a holiday-themed board (cnbc.com). Make sure you have the “pin it” button on your site so you can capture potential shoppers.
3. Contests
Implementing a social media campaign is a fun way to reach out to your customers and fans/followers/friends. Bed Bath & Beyond is running a ‘Holiday Your Way’ sweeps and 50 instant win prizes and a chance to win a shopping spree. They promote this contest via their social media pages. However, you can also run contests threw your social media outlets—such as ‘instagramming’ your best wrapped present or creating a hashtag and encouraging followers to share a story or tradition and the staff favorite wins the prize. No matter how you chose to run your contest, it is a great way to increase traffic and share the holiday spirit.
4. Remember your VIPs
Send special holiday messages to your loyal customers. It is a great warm & fuzzy unexpected greeting and could help to boost your sales. This can also spark your loyal customers to share your message with friends and family, thus contributing to word-of-mouth referrals. You could pick up a few new customers.

It is no secret that shoppers are more likely to make a purchase based on positive referrals. Friends, family, and social media all have significant pull with influencing shoppers.
